Blooming scarf

Last year I made a scarf pattern called Blommig sjal, "blooming scarf". It was actually just a few handdrawn charts accompanied by some short notes in Swedish. Here is now an English translation of the notes! With the same charts.

Yarn: About 100 g of any fingering weight yarn. I made one scarf in a wool sock yarn (the white one) and one in a bamboo mix (the light pink one). With the bamboo yarn, the scarf got a lovely drape. You can naturally use any yarn, and adjust hook size according to the weight of the yarn and to the desired firmness/drape.

Hook 3,5 mm

Size:You can adjust the pattern to make the scarf shorter, longer or wider. I used 100 g of the sock yarn to get 170 x 21 cm. The bamboo scarf is 170 x 27 cm and used 105 g of yarn.

The shawl is crocheted in dc = double crochet (American crochet terms) in the front loop only. This makes the fabric thin and nice! The charts are naturally possible to read and follow also if you prefer to work in both loops.

The flowers in the pattern are alternating in two different constructions. One has two petals in the first row and one in the last (flower to the left) and the other one has one petal in the first row and two in the last (flower to the right).

The flowers are arranged in a mirroring order like this.

1. Beginning.
Start reading the chart at the arrow in the bottom left corner of the picture. The odd rows are not marked with numbers but they go from right to left in the picture.
You can see that one side of the work is straight while the other side is made wider and wider.
For increase, work two dc in the same dc in the beginning of every odd row and in the end of every even row.
In the picture I have written "osv" at one point, which means "and so on". What I mean is to keep on increasing one stitch every row until you have reached row 10, which has 12 dc. The first flower appears on rows 11-13.

2. Transition to the middle-section
Beginning from row 40, no more increases are made.
If you want the scarf to be wider, you can keep on increasing (with longer and longer rows) until desired size. In that case, when you are starting a row with flowers, and you want to see how many stitches are made before the first flower, you look every other time at the beginning of row 31 and every other time at the beginning of row 35.

3. Middle
These 16 rows are repeated 4 times, or as many, or as few, times as you want. After row 57 start reading at row 42 again.

4. Decreasing in the other end and finish.
Here I have numbered the rows as if the middle was only crocheted once, I hope you understand what I mean. For decrease, work two dc together in the beginning of every odd row and in the end of every even row. The first decrease is in row 65 (corresponding).

In this part of the scarf, the first flower on a new flower-row is the same model every time. As you can see, the mirroring order is still kept. You can count stitches from the beginning of any flower-row you want, to determine where to put the first flower.
The number of flowers in the part of the scarf not seen in the chart is supposed to be the same as in the beginning of the scarf, but naturally in the opposite order: two flowers, two flowers, one flower, one flower, none. See also picture below.
